Hi,

I love the Siamese Algae Eater (Crossocheilus siamensis), but have only ever kept a pair in the past. They seemed to enjoy chasing each other around the tank etc.

New tank is 84 litres, therefore, I would prefer to keep just a single Siamese Algae Eater - has anyone any experience keeping one of these on its own (albeit with other fish)? Is it happy?

Cheers

PS. This is the genuine Siamese Algae Eater (note the stripe from nose in to tail - and no other markings):

I had just one for about a year and it was fine. Not quite so active but fine.

They are technicaly a schooling species so even a pair is not sufficient. Having said that, they seem to be fine on their own (I have kept this species as well as C. oblongus, Garra taeniata and Flying foxes - all of which are sometimes confused with the true siamese algae eater).
