k i know that BGK are a nocturnal fish. but i never see my BGK except sometimes in the mornings when i feed. but it seems like most other BGK seem to be active. is their anyway to get him out?
he's just a little guy maybe 5 in i have him in a 50gal tank, with tetras two blue white tipped rainbows ( which i read don't do well as a pair) and a paradise gourami and ghost shrimp. and my sysnadontis when they are well. could it be that thier are two many fish?

The amount of fish wont be the problem, they are just reclusive fish which prefer the lights to be out or dim, having said that, mine isnt too bad, he comes out occassionally during the day, normally middle of the afternoon because he knows thats around feeding time and if Im late I know about it because he starts swimming around the tank impatiently. Try feeding him around the same time each day, so that he gets used to it and try to encourage him out more by hand feeding him, start slowly with putting the food near him, then gradually increase the space between him and the food (ie your hand) until he has to come all the way out of his hidey hole, it will give him more confidence.

Now you do know that the 50g wont be large enough for him long term right? They are slow growing fish but he will need to be upgraded to at least 100g tank long before he reaches adult size (which can be 24" although more likely 18" or thereabouts).

yes i know that i need a bigger tank and thats sort my leverage to get a bigger tank..but thats for when i move into a house. and i cant wait till that happens
