My 3 inch shubunkin has developed a large bump on his side near the head. It doesn't appear to affect him at all...still eating and swimming normally. Wondering if it might be cancer?

Water parameters are within normal ranges. I intend to move him to a hospital tank and treat with a salt bath. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Thanks, Wilder. I'll treat it as a bacterial infection. He's slowing down a lot now and resting on the bottom of the hospital tank. Poor thing.

I had a goldfish who had a lump at the base of his dorsal fin for more than half his life (he died at 17). I think it was a tumour. It didn't effect his at all. At one point we treated the whole tank with methelene blue (don't remember why) and the lump went away, leaving a big white patch on the scales where it had been. Then another lump grew on the other side of his dorsal fin. He was a happy fish though, it didn't effect him...

How is he today, hope he still is on the mend.

Still swimming. He rests alot on the bottom. I wonder if he's not lonely... He's still swimming occasionally, appearing pretty normal. The lump has changed. Its not so pointy, but covers a larger area. I wonder if it wasn't some sort of infection. We're on day 4 of meds. I'll keep him in the hospital tank for the remainder of the medication time, change the water out a few times and try to get him back in the big tank.

Thanks for your concern! :D
