hi, i have cherries and amano in my tank and i want maybe another type of resonably small shrimp. (no bigger than amano) my question is what types are out there, that are cheap, hardy and wont cross breed. another thing, if i sell the cherry shrimp juvi's i dont want other juvi shrimp that look the same colour if you get me!!!!

Tiger shrimp/ they o.nly get to 3cm, aren't too expensive and won't hybridise with amanos or cherries for that matter.

will they still breed tho? what colour are the adults and juvi's?

Crystal Red Shrimps (CRS) are small and their babies are very cute and quite distinctive although they are a little more sensitive compared to cherry shrimps. You can find more info on compatibility a few threads down.

what size tank do they need? i have an 10 US gallon with 6 amano's and about 30 cherries.

That's quite a nice size for just shrimps. You can comfortably put 10-20 in there to start with :D

ok cool, i may do that in the future. i wanted a tank around the 60l mark for them, so i can use it as a fry tank as well but no1 will swap etc :shifty:

Only thing with crystal reds is they are ridicuosly expensive. On aquaessentials the least you can spend on one crystal red is 12.99! And you can spend 29.99 for just one shrimp! So be prepared to pay a lot of money.

oh maybe they are off the list. what about tiger shrimp? they dont look like my cherries and i will be able to tell the differance between thier juvis and the ones from the cherries (at least i think so).

I'm thinking of tigers also, and would like to know this if someone keeps both could tell us it would be appriciated.

CRS are not off the list if you get the lower grade ones mine are low grade and cos £20 for 13 shrimp from maidenhead aquatics so just shop around :)

but i want the higher grade so therefore it will cost me!!!! what about tiger shrimp?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder  I personally prefer the look of the lower grade CRS which has thin white bands :)

Also, if you are lucky, you can find some decent grade CRS amongst the lower grade batch shrimps in your LFS. Just need some patience to pick them out

i will certainly have a look? do these breed well?

can anyone tel me about tiger shrimp tiger shrimp? do they look like my cherries and i will be able to tell the differance between thier juvis and the ones from the cherries? are they cheapish?

There are quite a variety of tiger shrimps nowadays  but obviously the blue and black tigers are more expensive. I think the "normal" tiger shrimps are more or less same price as cherry shrimps. They have tiger stripes on transparent body. The shrimplets don't look too different from cherry shrimplets until their stripes develop. There are a few members here (Liam, ~T~, Pippoodle, etc..) who have posted pictures of various types of tiger shrimps. Have a look at their threads in this section and the pictures section :good:
