I jus bought a shrimp yesterday and im wondering what do u feed them?

What sort of shrimp did you get?

I have ghost shrimp and they just live happily on whatever comes their way. It's rather comical to watch them scrambling off clutching a chunk of shrimp pellet. For being such little beasties they sure are strong

Hahaha thats would be funny! Im not sure what kind of shrimp i got they jus had them at my lfs and they wernt labeled or even for sale but i had to have one... What do ghost shrimps look like?

Ghost shrimp are transparent little critters that stay very busy cleaning the gravel. You can actually see whatever they've been eating inside them. They are usually pretty cheap and some fish will eat them.Mine take one out now and then, usually if they are molting. But mostly they don't go after them. They keep the floor of the tank spotless, and even when I add water I don't see any debris floating around. They are amusing to watch,as well.I would like to get some of the more colorful shrimp, but never see them in my area.

I think mine is probably a ghost shrimp cos hes transparent so yea... I gotta get down to my lfs cos i want more! Haha Hes not in with my other fish because hes only small so hes living in my 1.5g at the moment all by himself so i think he needs some more company! Haha

Do ghost shrimp eat algae at all, or do they just eat meaty stuff off the floor of the tank? I want to get some for my puffer tank, so hopefully they eat some of the bloodworm in the gravel and (if they do eat it) some algae, before they're eaten themselves.

They are scavengers, but I don't know that they eat algae. All I know is that they'll eat whatever your fish don't--in other words, basically anything that they can get their claws on.

AJ86--one warning: do not ever put them in a tank with any tiny fish, especially fish fry, as the shrimps WILL eat them!!!

They eat leftover food and fish poo. They need to be in at least slightly hard water for the calcium to harden new shells. You'll also need to get some reef iodine and add one drop per 5gal. They need that to molt. They also need hiding places for the time before their new shell hardens or they will likely be eaten. :)
