First of all, what do you mean "normal" shrimp.

Second, you know shrimp lay eggs correct?

The female will moult and the eggs move from the saddle to her abdomen. She will release a phermone that attracts the male and causes all the males to swim frantically around the tank looking for her. During mating the male will climb under the female and fertilize the berried female. The eggs take about 4 weeks to hatch. Depending on the type of shrimp, you will either have fully formed shrimplets or the larvae form which needs salt water to grow.

The behaviour you see is probably just dominance for food or a bit of bullying. What type of shrimp is it?

hi and thanks, done abit of research i found it is "Amano Shrimp" but the LFS sold them as algae eating shrimps.

it was wierd how the one i classed as female stay still and the other was on "her back" it didnt look like aggression as "he" got off and then just acted normal.

what do you think?

many thanks

It's fine, nothing to worry about. My cherry shrimp do that all the time during feeding time. Often, one shrimp will be holding a small bit of food that another one wants so the shrimp jumps on it's back and tries to steal bits of food that fall off of what the other one is eating. Sometimes they "tap tap tap" on each other's head as they are picking up small bits of food and eating it. It's kind of cute. The shrimp on the bottom usually won't mind to much though sometimes Amanos can get a bit boisterous with each other.
