i bought some shrimp today and forgot to ask the guy what they eat when theres no algae left?! :dunno:

I've caught my algae shrimp eating frozen bloodworm, even though I was certain they only ate algae, and I spotted my rock shrimp eating some fish poo earlier today even though he is supposed to be a filter feeder

Anybody know where to buy some shrimp online (UK only please) as no LFS near me stock them :( , apart from Pets at Home and I swore (literally) that I would never buy a living thing from them :grr:.

From what I know of them, shrimp will eat practically anything available that is remotely edible. Also another reason to keep them out of your fry tanks, because if it's small enough--or if it's dead--it's food.

Of course that's true of any other fish in a fry tank, even the parents. You are less likely to have a shrimp eating your fry than other fish. Most shrimp are not going to bother/be able to catch most healthy fry. If it's dead or dying the shrimp is doing you a favor by eating it.

cockle.... the shrimp would love some cockle.

If you drop a lump in, yes your fish will go mad on it but they are messy, the shrimp get their feed from cleaning up, or when the fish get bored with it.

i would say an algea wafer. but i buy ghost shrimp to eat my plecos poop. course then my pleco eats the ghost shrimp and poops more :D

The pleco eats the shrimp?!? never seen my pleco act like that before.

Bottom line, the shrimp are scavengers, which is why they are often a large component of any tank's cleanup crew.

Yep they'll yum up algae wafers too.

cool! thanks i herd the fish like to eat peas as well, so u just let them thaw u dont have to cook them?
