Will A shrimp hurt you if it starts picking at your hand when your doing something in the tank? By picking at your hand I basically mean doing what it does during the day while it's sifting through sand for food. You know that motion with it's cheliped/pincers. The reason I'm asking is because I have 2 amano shrimp and one of them keeps reaching for my hand but I'm scared to let it on m hand just in case it thinks I'm food and tries eating me...

Cheers,

It has been known for Amanos to actually eat humans, only joking Alishia

They often do this, i think a group of Amanos would do a better job at cleaning the hard skin than a group of Gara Rufas. I wouldn't worry about it. :good:

I just had a nightmare while I was awake! I'm guessing you've read my profile recently?

Thank you. So they don't hurt at all? I've got 2 males and one is really confident and wants my hand but the other swims away from my hand.

Yes we read profiles often, i also know you changed your username recently. ;)

You'll be fine they will only pick at dead skin. :good:

I just have one thing to say! Don't say things like "They have been known to actually eat humans" when I ask questions like this please! It scared the life out of me!
Thanks for answering my question though, he's really curious. My friend once had a cleaner shrimp stuck to her hand for about 10 minutes cleaning her. Her hand was very soft and smooth after.

Yours or mine? My 2 shrimp hate my mum. Probably because she called them weird and scary. They both hide when she goes near the tank, but if I go near the tank only one of them hides. The other comes to the front to greet me, he has to fight the female betta though because she comes to say hi too.
