I just came across this site:
http://www.theshrimpfarm.com/
and i was wondering if anyone has purchased from it before? I live in Australia, so I'm assuming most of what I buy isn't going to make it home.. I really want to bring a few orange-eyed blue tigers over, but at $100 for 4 shrimp, I'm not really willing to risk getting nothing for my money.

ALSO, has anyone had experience with raising or breeding this type of shrimp?

hello not sure but are you allowed to import to oz ?

Hate to break it to you but you wont be able to import any live shrimp into Australia, what we currently have in the way of excotic shrimp where smuggled in illigally, however you can keep them once they are in Australia. I guess that allowance is because by the time the fancy shrimp are being sold readily it's to late to back track down to who the original importer was.

We have some amazing shrimp of our own that people overseas can't get. Shrimp such as False Zebra Shrimp, North Queensland Zebra Shrimp, North Australian Chameleon shrimp, Rifle Shrimp, and some interesting developments in the native glass shrimp.

I know its frustrating seeing what is available overseas but, no breeding or development has been done in our natives so there is HUGE potential in these species. Heck new types are still being discovered :hyper: .

The zebra and chameleon look a lot like crystal reds and blacks. Are these both tropical fresh water? and where would i go about getting them in Adelaide or even Australia?

False Zebra and QLD Zebra shrimp are both Caridina the same family as Crystal shrimp but they are distantly related. I have been in contact with a person in Cairns who regularly keeps. breeds and collects shrimp and by all accounts the False Zebras are hardier than the Zebras, I will be getting some False Zebras soon from him and hope to get some QLD zebras in the near future as well. AquaGreen in Darwin sells quite a few shrimp and from memory they have chameleons. Otherwise the only other sellers I have found for our native shrimp are private sellers on places like Simple Trade or Australian fish forums. All I can suggest is do some for sale searches and eventually you will find some current sellers.

I would call Zebras more cool water tropical as they live quite high in the head waters of some of the major creeks/ rivers up around Cairns, while Flase Zebras are more low land fresh water shrimp. I think there are a few types of chameleon shrimp and from memory they can be found in various waterways up and down the East Coast.

And your lucky your in SA and not WA because nearly everything is banned from being sent into WA.

Good luck with your searches, and who know if my False Zebras do well I may be in a position further down the track to sell some of future generations.

Lol, that'b because WA is like a whole world away from the rest of the country, nothing would survive the trip  Thanks for the advice though mate, I'll do my research and see what I can come up with.

I have now found this Australian site, based in Northern Territory:
http://www.aquagreen.com.au/plant_data/Caridina_sp_WA_4.html

Again, has anyone purchased from them before? I'm interested in Chameleon Shrimp now, and they will sell around 10 for $30. What are the chances of survival, and has anyone had this type of shrimp before?
