Hi,

I've read somwhere that invertabrates have a bigger loading on your tank and you can keep less fish if you have them - is it true?

I'm thinking of putting a few Ghost Shrimp in my tank but don't want to totally overload it as it's going really well at the moment .....

Thanks for your help.....

You should really have posted this in the Invertebrates, Amphibians & Aquatic Reptiles Forum. But no Ghost Shrimp hardly make a dent on the bio load.

new one on me. shrimp tend to have very little effect on the bio load.

It depends on the invert really.

Generally, snails are poop machines and add a lot of bioload to a tank. So do crays, due to their messy eating habits. But shrimp contribute hardly anything to bioload. Many people claim that algae-eating shrimp add no appreciable waste to a tank, though they probably should be counted towards stocking at some, minor level.

I would say that an invert will place a quarter of the bioload on the system that for a fish of the same size....

i would agree with Underwurlde.

as for a Cray being messy, it is something i have not noticed. cleaning a cray only tank is a delight. and the same can be said of the Redclaw chinese crab. perhaps i just had a dainty eaters!
