sold as a red clawed shrimp
the closest match on the net is red clawed crayfish
but the claws are way too small to be that, or are they? :dunno:

I have a feeling it is actually a chameleon shrimp Macrobrachium pilimanus
but not sure :/
any ideas?

I agree with your first guess wolf. I hope its not with any fish, Macrobrachium species are pure flipping evil, the one i HAD ate a sturgeon catfish 3 times its own size last week before swiftly meeting its end in the mouth of my arowana.

he is with fish,
a betta & two botia rostrata( small and thin, need feeding up)
there are also two red clawed crabs too.

oh well now theres an excuse to set up my empty 7.5 gal then :D

Crabs, lobsters, crayfish, prawns and shrimp really dont mix well with fish and keeping them together normally ends in the demise of one or the other, usually the fish :( I ignored my own advise when we saw some "giant FW prawns" which were advertised as community safe inverts and quickly lost 2 corys to it, then i made the second mistake by thinking it couldnt attack larger fish and lost a expensive semi rare catfish to it. All round it was a expensive and sad lesson to learn.
