hey! i've never kept shrimp before, but i'm looking for something to control the algae/detritus in a 10gal fry tank. some people have suggested shrimp, but from wat i've read, some shrimp are hunters and are dangerous around fry(or other small fish :( ). are there any shrimp that would make a good choice for the tank? also, any care tips (temp. ph, food, etc) for any suggestions would be more than welcome

rock shrimps. They look cool and they are filter feeders-which means your fish wouldn't be eaten up by it unless its a microscopic particle! :D :D :D :D :D

If you need algae control, you can't go wrong with the amano shrimp or any of the neocardina shrimps, like the red cherry.

Before you go rushing out to buy any shrimp ...... what size is your tank and what other fish do you have in there ..... you may just end up buying some expensive 'live food' !

If your tank is 'shrimp safe' then I'd add my vote for Amano shrimp .... they're about the best little algae eaters you can get. But dont just get one or two. Depending on your tank size, you'll need at least 6 !

I've also got rock/wood/bamboo (pick yer name) fan shrimp, they're great to have in the tank, but dont eat algae and tend to hide away lots more than the Amano shrimp.

Would red cherry, amano, and rock shrimp be compatible with livebearers like swordtails, guppies, platies, mollies, and the like? Maybe some tetras or something. These aren't all the fish in my tank, but I'm just making sure they're compatible with the type I'm looking for.

I have a 10g tank with plants, about 1.5WPG...thanks!

I cant see anything wrong with any of the fish you've listed, including the tetra's.
I have tetra's and mollies with shrimp in some of my tanks along with dwarf gourmai's and corydoras.

You'd need to watch out for things like angels, tiger barbs, clown loaches (or any Botia) and cichlids
and I've also heard red tail black shark's are not too good with shrimp.

Great! Thanks....oh, how about rosy barbs? Or are barbs out in general?
Tiger barbs and angels keep going after my more timid guppies so they're out from the beginning.
