Hello, I recently added two Amano shrimp to my tropical tank and they're brilliant! I've got a small algae problem in my coldwater tank and was wondering if there are any shrimp that would be suitable. It's not a large tank (30L) so I'm only looking for one shrimp of about an inch.

Cheers

How cold does your coldwater tank get? Most often, coldwater tanks are really just unheated room temperature tanks. If that is what you have, what is the temperature range of the water and the room? What else is in the tank? If your water parameters and tank mates are compatible with Cherry Shrimp, they would be good algae eaters and cleaners and only grow to about an inch or a little more. They have a very light bioload so you could have more than one as long as the tank is not overstocked already. Most shrimp are intolerant of bad water quality so they do not work well in overstocked tanks with poor water quality issues or even elevated nitrates. They do best in planted tanks with low nitrates.
