I think it's a vole, shrews have little star like noses, and moles.... well, you know a mole when you see one, and damn are they strong...

I went to let it free and it imediately started munching grass, so a vole it is, I recaptured it and put some grass in for it because I'm sure it would have been eaten, it didn't react to me at all.

Are you going to keep it? Or release it somewhere else?

awww mabe it might be to tame to go to the wild because it showed no fear so it might get eaten!

It's a vole. Voles are different from Moles.

My cat kills them. We put a bell on him to lower the body count, but it doesn't seem to affect the voles. They're pretty dumb (trusting?)

Good luck keeping him in captivity, I hope (s)he does well!

Did a little googling and came up with field vole, or short tailed vole; Microtus agrestis. They only live about a year. Apparently there are lots of different kinds of voles... but this one looks the most like yours. :D

Field Vole

I'm in alaska Jen, not europe :p

Its sooo cute, although I don't think I'll keep it in captivity for long.

I've got bad news, Just after my last post I went outside to move Bob II to a bigger encloser and found him Dead, I'll build him a box and burry him tommorrow, haven't a clue why he died :(.

Could quite possibly have been stress as cause of death :byebye:

Well, I've begun prepairations for the funeral. Heres some Alaskan Birch that I have selected to construct his coffin out of.

Here are the top and bottom pieces

I've desided to finger joint the sides, so I don't have to work out miter angles.

Now does anyone know how they affix the lids on coffins? Would it be taboo to just nail the sucker on, I'm not going to be able to put hinges on well.

Voles, shrews, and the like have extremely high metabolisms and can starve to death in a matter of hours.

I'm not trying to say that you starved him or didn't feed him. But what would be enough feeding for, say, a dog or cat (frequency-wise), won't necessarily be for one of those little high-metabolism rodents.

Sorry he died :(
