I have a premium butterfly male Bettany. I got him around 4-21-16. He has been happy. Recently he has stopped eating but started eating fine again when I put a small heater in his tank. I was thinking he would be even happier in a 20gal tank so I was getting thing ready when I say his tail has been shredded almost as if something was eating it. There is nothing else in the tank and he seemed happy. Could this be a case of fin rot? He's tail was rounded when I got him and now he looks more like a crown tail. I don't have any from the day of got him but I can show you how it has changed over time. The first few days he did eat his tail but he got over it but now idk what is going on.

If you have a test kit, could you get us your water parameters? (Ammonia, NO3, NO2) Fin rot is related to poor water conditions, but the unheated water could have hit his immune system.
Are there any sharp or pointy decorations in the tank?
Some bettas bite their tails, I have a betta with that habit that has finally stopped.
