Shredded fins

Hi everyone,
Well, I went to work today, came back, and my betta's back fin was torn quite a bit in multiple places. I have silk plants, so that can't be to blame. I do however have 2 ADF's. They were in the aquarium first, the betta was added about 2 weeks later. The one ADF is pretty big and I'm afraid that he may have nipped at the betta's fins. I had another betta in the tank with the same ADF before and a similar thing happened to him. I woke up one morning and found that his fins were a little bit torn. But this time it's worse! So I put my betta in a bowl with some gravel and a plant, added salt, and melafix. So we'll see what happens. But has anyone ever heard of this happening? I thought that ADF's and bettas got along? My betta also seemed to have some stress lines around his face this morning.

It's possible that the ADF nipped your betta's fins a bit. But the betta could actually have torn its fins on the gravel or silk plants, although it is unlikely. Usually ADFs get along well with bettas, but each fish/ amphib. has a different personality, so you may have a playful/ agressive ADF.

Are you sure it's an ADF that you have and not the similar clawed variety frog? They are very similar looking but the clawed will go after the Betta. You say your frog is pretty big, this is a clue you may have the clawed variety, as the ADF's stay very small. Here is a website that helps you figure out which type you have, and the differences.
