So I have floating wisteria in my tank I’m thinking of planting it. Because I have briatlnose and they can hide it just wondering is ther a way to make it like stay flat on the ground so the bristlenose can hide in it or does it need to be planted

The species is Hygrophila difformis, and this is a stem plant. The plant will not lie on the substrate unless it is somehow pinned down. The stems will continually grow towards the light, which is overhead, no matter what you do. You can push the cut ends of the stems into the substrate and grow it as a stem plant, or allow it to float. If it is floating now and growing well, planting it might cause the lower portions of the stems to lose their leaves, since the plant grows toward the light and the nutrients are used for this growth. Too little light reaches the substrate in most situations.

I agree with what Byron said above. Your bristlenose is not likely to want to hang out in the plant. I have that plant floating in two of my aquariums and also planted. One of the pieces had some long roots, and I used my magnetic algae scraper to hold the roots up against the glass about 3/4 of the way down. It grew so much and got really bushy. Plenty of that plant to go around now.

Your bristlenose will appreciate some driftwood though. I have a lot of driftwood pieces in my tank and my bristlenose would find a spot up underneath the driftwood and hang out there scraping away. My bristlenose spent most of his time inside his pleco cave also which I picked up on eBay (I think). A guy made the caves himself and I got a nice oval “egg” shaped one, it was large and the hole was just barely big enough for my adult to squeeze into. It was black. Those two areas were where he was most of the time.

Enjoy your aquariums.

Agree, real wood is essential. Bristlenose have to graze real wood, not for nutrition but to maintain a healthy digestive system, something in the wood does this.
