hi, im new to this so before i do anything need some advice. i have 1 gold fish in a starter tank but thinking about getting her a bigger tank. i really like the look of the bio-orb but thought i would get some poinions first. my reasons your thinking of this would be;
1. it looks good
2. it wouldn't take up too much room.
3. i dont't think the cat would get on top of it and scare the fish.
4. it looks good.
how many fish would be abel to live in it? i would like to get her a friend as shes on her own, do fish need company? she recognises me and lets me know when its time for food.
BTW is fish flakes the best thing for gold fish or is there another type im not aware of.
phew!! thats my lot.
thanks

Hi,
welcome to the forum

Don't do it, a biorb is a bad design for a tank and goldfish need 20 US gallons for the first fish and 10 gallons for each additional fish. Biorb 30s hold 30 litres which is only 6.5991 imperial gallons or 7.9275 US gallons The bigger biorb 60 holds twice as much but is still unsuitable for goldfish.

If you want to get a friend for your fish you need a 30 gallon tank. A rectangular tank is better as it gives the fish room to swim. Biorbs are very expensive too. You should be able to pick up a 30 gallon tank for less than the cost of a biorb.

If you really have your heart set on a biorb get the 60 litre one but your fish will have to stay alone. If its a fancy goldfish that doesn't swim around as much as a common one it should be ok for quite a while but its surprising how big goldfish grow when properly cared for.

Have a read of the pinned topics in the coldwater section.

^^^^ I agree! Bio-orbs have incredibly small surface area and are incredibly expensive. Get a 30 gallon if you want a pair of goldfish and with a full enclosed hood (to protect it from the cat). And you'll save money compared to a biorb.
