I want to get a flowerhorn. I would get a 65 gallon tank and I have 2 options. At one lfs they have 4 inch Thai silk flowerhorns and they already have the beautiful kok but it is $95. At my other lfs they have a bunch of 2 inch baby Thai silks and they are $15. Should I get the one $95 one or get 5 $15 babies and grow them out and keep the best one? I would obviously save money getting 5 babies but there is a risk bc I don’t know what I would get. I would prefer the babies bc I think it would be fun and it would cost way less. Here is the 4 inch one:

Usually, I prefer to buy the young ones as they are cheaper and I like to see them grow.
They are cute when they are young.

But there are fish that are more fragile and harder to keep when they are young such as Discus.
For this type of fish, I will buy the bigger or slightly bigger ones.

Flowerhorns shouldn't be difficult to keep.
Can they show you the babies' parents?
By the way, if the babies are expensive, usually the parents are beautiful.(just my opinion)

I got the expensive one. He is pictured above

By the way, I realized that if you buy the babies, you may need to separate them when they grow up.
I heard that they will fight if you keep them together when they have grown up.
So, it means you will need more separate tanks when they grow up.

True. I got just the one so I don’t have to worry about that thankfully
