I've seen them for less than half of that price, but I have no idea how much the average endli would go for in the UK... I would go ahead and go for it, and like Anne said, just remeber what size they can attain.

how large do they get 18" i have a 5ftx2ftx2ft spare tank thats just planted at the moment with a healing jd and a p.delzeri

I've seen many that are ~18", definitely not their max size though. They have the potential to hit around 30", but that would take time.

Yes, though Polypterus endlicheri congicus can get to around 40", so be sure to get a P. e. endlicheri. It is possible that it might outgrow that tank, but it will take quite a while, and I'm sure that you wont have any trouble finding a home for a large endli.
