so my adult female plec has been acting rather strange today, normally she is the most actuve fish in the tank, now she is just sitting in the front corner and she is alive because she moves within a small area near the corner, the other fish in the ank are 2 juvi bns, 4 cardinals and a small clown loach, when i fed them she still didn't move so i put some algae pellets nearer to her and she ate a few, i have had her around 8 years and i don't want to loose her, she get on fine with the other 2 (both female and her fry) so if anyone could help that would be great, or am i worrying about nothing, thanks for your time

She's probably getting old. As far as I can tell, the common Ancistrus live around 10 years, plus or minus. So just like other old animals, she'll eat less, move about less, and generally show less interest in exploring and interacting with the other fish. Lifespan in Loricariidae catfish seems to be related to size, and the bigger the fish, the longer it will live. You can probably expect large Hypostomus and Panaque catfish to live 20 years.

Cheers, Neale

Well sadly she died yesterday  but hopefully the two juvies i have will live as long as there mother did

Sorry for your loss.

But clown loaches should be kept in trio not singly. They become VERY aggressive if left alone.
