I currently have a 15 Imp Gal tank which has been running for over 2 years now. Filtration is an Eheim 2008 and a Fluval 1 (backup) internal filters.

Current inhabitants are:
4 Amano Shrimp
6 Harlequin Rasboras
2 Pentazona Barbs
1 Bristlenose catfish

Over the years I have had a fair few fish deaths of which I could not explain as tank has never been overstocked and all water parameters have been fine. I did start out with 5 pentazona barbs, 4 of which survived for over a year, but now only have one original (female) and another (male) which I added later. I have not had any deaths for over 6 months.

Recently I have noticed that my much larger female pentazona has been chasing my male pentazona frantically around the tank. I know these are peaceful fish and I have not seen her be such a bully in the past. He is very small but eats like a gannet so I am wondering if all this chasing around is causing him to stay small. I am wondering whether I need to add some more pentazona's to stop her picking on him. Would I be able to do this with my current number of inhabitants and if so, how many should I get? 2?

I was thinking about getting some sparkling gouramis but I am not sure now.

Thanks

Shiv
