just a quik question, has any one on here got/had a shortnose gar? coz am getting one next week and was just wondering what they were like to keep. i know they get big, but ive just ordered a 6x2x3foot tank anyway

That size tank will still be too small, to quote from the oddball section-

'Lepisosteus platostomus, Spotnose gar; The smallest of the Lepisosteus species but unfortunately the least often seen, wild adults only reach a length of up to 24 inches and captive fish are usually smaller, a 8x2.5x2 foot tank could easily house a adult for life. L.platostomus can be identified from L.oculatus by its shorter snout.'.

Actually a 8x3x3 foot tank would be better due to their scalation gars are not very flexible and require a wider truning radius than most fish so the wider(front to back) the better-Anne
