These are the ones I thought were all girls. But when they grew up a bit, two of them turned out to be boys, just like some of you told me :*)

So, are they short finned Betta splendens, right? They don't look like imbellis to me, so they must be. I'm a bit confused about this plakat thingy.

I really hope that the one on the left is a boy. He has been making bubble nests and flares beautifully. He is the uhm, submissive male, the other one is the boss in the tank.

And the reasons why I think he is a male. The girl in the middle is definitely a girl, she has spawned and has really visible egg spot. The other two don't have those and their tummies are flat. The smaller male also has long pelvic fins, they are almost half bigger than females pelvic fins.

Here's a bad picture. What do you think?

Hard to say, but the pic of "another boy" looks male (long pelvic fins)

They're beautiful, rain  . The last pic shows both with stripes, which would lead me to believe they're females

Thank you, I really like them too. They are so natural.

But, about stripes. This is the first male when he isn't flaring:

Horizontal stripes indicate stress.

True.

I'd be stressed too if someone would grab me and put me in a jar and start taking picures of me, or take me from a fish bag and drop me in a weird place ;)

Yup, the second one is definitely a boy too. He is just spawning with a nice girl. Just testing, not going to raise the fry though.

The girl, Lady (of the lake) is a total nutcase. She was normal when she spawned first time with Karkki. Just like a regular female. Helped with the eggs and all.

I put her and Keksi to my 500L tank and she started building a bubble nest to one side of the tank. And then she went to look for the boy and lured him under the nest  The boy was building his nest too in the other direction and this two nests -situation didn't look good. So I moved the boy to one of my breeding tanks and part of his nest too. And put the girl inside a plastic, see trough containen floating in the same tank. The boy built the nest, girl stared at him. And then she jumped to the tank and they spawned. She collected eggs and blew them to the nest too.

But she wasn't happy. She went to other side of the tank and built her own nest again and got the boy there too, they spawned again. The boy wanted to move the eggs to his nest, the girl didn't like the idea and they fought a bit.

Well, they are separated now and the eggs are scattered all over the tank.

That's a one, weird girl.

I feel that I have to apologise for spamming you all with pictures. I bet it's really boring to see someone elses fish and house and stuff, again and again.

I just feel more comfortable discussing things with pictures showing what I mean and/or try to ask. My english is ok, but still it isn't my mother language. But pictures are universal.

oh wow..I enjoyed hearing your experience with breeding them..that is really weird I have never heard of a female building the nest, then luring the male under it. maybe she is just dominant lol very nice pictures as well..did you get all of these bettas at the same place? or did you order them from online?

wow

they are all amazing.
