Ok, I started this quick and easy project because for my 5.5 gallon killie tank(pic of male in my avatar) I didnt have a hood so I was using the plastic mesh material but it kept dipping into the water because its not sturdy enough. So I went downstairs and got an old shoebox and some scizzors. First I turned the shoebox upside down and cut out the bottum then lay it on the top of the tank and cut off the excess, then I cut out the top and did the same with it and wallah, easy hood. The only thing you have to worry about is if your tank has an air wand or bubbler of any kind it will make the cardboard wet and it will ruin it. Hope this helps anyone that needs a quick and easy hood

Pics would be great! :D sounds interesting

When my dad gets home with the camera I'll take some pics of it.

LMAO!! I did the same thing!! only... If oyu have the kind of showbox where there is a lid thats seperate from the box itself, you can just use the lid.

Yea I cut mine out of a Vans box, works pretty good except I forgot to space it out so it covers the whole top and there was a small place and one of my female killies jumped out  But she got back in the tank only after like 10 seconds but she's not 100 percent yet but I'm gonna run a cycle of melafix to cure the small wounds she got.

swear i already added this to this thread but neway.....

i used a clear plastic bin lid for a hood on my hex tank. sat on there perfectly and it was from one of those storage bins you see them selling for kids bedrooms or something so it wasnt too unsightly either.
