does anyone put decorations in their marine tank? by that i am thinking about sea shells, urchin skeletons, stuff like that, and not plastic sharks etc blowing bubbles. or is that sort of thing considered tacky?

I have some beautiful shells here at work, and I'd love them in my tank but I dont want them to break down in the tank and pollute the water... if this is possible

i really cant imagine putting sea shells into a marine tank causing a problem....... providing they are 100% natural i.e no varnish etc and 100% clean

What's wrong with plastic sharks blowing bubbles?

Oooooo, a sunken galleon! With bubbles...

I imagine some shells should be placed around the tank for hermits. I actually have a few local shells that I've collected over the years that I may use for the hermits if they are the right size. Also, if I go with some of the fish species that I've mentioned, they like to hide in shells.

yes i have various shells for hermits, but was thinking maybe of queen scallop shells or something like that, decoration only unless i had a surfing hermit

Nah, for Endor, I had a Roman Colleseum, with bubbles...

ive got a couple, but im gonna take them out this weekend, they are too big for my hermits and are going different,
but i also will be adding more sand for my nass snails and they should sort the sand out, so i dont want some massive shells in my tank as they will want too get everywhere.

I have some big hermit shells from the local beech, soaked them in white vinegar to clean. I also have a skeleton from a dead lump of SPS which I quite like.
