I have a tropical fish tank with about 20 fish etc, and I am wondering if I should change to salt water over time when all the fish have died.
Is it easy to maintain a salt water tank and how much more expensive is it?
What are the pros and cons?

well it depends on what you want to keep.
how big is the tank?
would you like corals?
what is the lighting?
it does cost a lot but it is worth it if you are having a reef.

20 tropical fish + image doesn't seem that big. We're talking pico/nano sizes which are harder to maintain and you are limited by what stock you can keep (clowns, gobies etc).

Profile says 60L though, which is pretty small (almost same as my freshwater).

Do you often expect your fish to die? I certainly expect my tropical fish to last (except NTD, grrr) :/

its worth it if you have the time, patience and money!! I did this this year andI;m loving it although there havebeentimes when I;ve been a little disollusioned. Corals are great and quite addictive

you may be waiting for a while for those 20 fish to live their lives so I;d definately recomend reading all the info on here the journals are helpful and see if you really want to do it

I took the plunge from fresh to salt a couple of months ago and yes it is a lot of work and pretty expensive but is it worth it.... definitely.
I am loving seeing all the changes my tank is going through. I am being very patient though which is something that you need to be to take on a marine tank. This forum is fantastic though. Read other peoples journals, they really inspired me and helped me out a lot as it is very different from keeping freshwater fish.

You could give your fish away for free to people who can't afford to buy lots of nice fish, or take them to any fish store and i'm surely they'll gladly take them off your hands :good:

I would personally recommend the change, just be patient, and marine is like a whole different hobby to freshwater. (much more in depth)
