My SG 1.020.
Can i raise that in one big hit.
Or do i need to raise it over time.
i just did my Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate.

0.1 Ammonia
0 Nitrite
20 Nitrate

I want it at 1.022 - 23?

If you have stock in the tank then Defo NO

dont raise it by more than 0.01 per 24 hours

:p :p

Would also be better raising it to 1.026

MY LFS run there tanks at 1.022 but this is just to save on salt

Most reefs are run around the 26 level

i agree with chac on this one but i only keep my SG at 1.021 and have done for the last 2 years with no problems

i also though that lfs keep there sg down to help keep decease at bay

Hi.....agree with all the above...don't raise it more than 0.001 per day. Do it by adding SW mixed to the sg gravity you want to reach, or, you can hold off topping off and let it slowly evaporate to the s.g gravity you want (if it doesn't fall beneath your pump levels or require a large volume of evaporation), and then refill with the same s.g SW. IMO, if you are going to keep corals, I'd aim for 1.025-1.026. I keep mine at the latter. The average s.g. of the ocean is 1.026. SH

My SG is currently 1.019 :-(

This to make it hard for parasites to thrive in the tank. There is no sign of stress fromthe corals at this level which suprises me to be honest.

Once the tank is fighting fit again (which will be sooner than i thought I hope) then i am going to slwoly increase the SG back up to 1.024. I used otkeep it at 1.025 with artificial salt but i found the fish seemed less comfortable and it stressed their internal organs. WHen i used natural seawater (1.025 in this area) they seemed perfectly happy.

I will be keepinf to 1.024 as a happy medium for both fish and corals. less stress to the kidneys and other organs to fish and still comfortable for corals to thrive.
