Hi dose anyonee know how to tell the diffrence between a male redtail catfish and a female?

As far as I know, there are no external differences between male and female... if you are even thinking about breeding these fish, I hope you have a couple of thousands of gallons to accommodate the parents and fry. :S

Honestly, RTC are one of those fish that shouldn't even be sold in stores. So few people can even think about housing one.

Lol, the only logical reason for breeding them would be if you really like the taste of catfish. If your not going to eat all the fry your screwed.

A possible reason for sexing is a belief (the truth of which I am unsure of) that the males top out around 30-36" while the females carry on to 5 foot and beyond (Captive sizes).

you are on the right lines as i am studdying the redtailed catfish , (so how im told and have found out on line) females tend to be much thicker and males stop around 3ft as females go large up to 6ft 2" long huge fish (this is what i belive ).
hope it helps.
