Hi mrplaty
What kind of corys do you have?
I don't see any listed in your profile, so perhaps you are just thinking about getting them and wondering how to be sure you have both genders so you can try to spawn them.
If so, I always recommend the C. aeneus, either the bronze or the albino corys. They spawn quite readily once they have reached maturity. Often all you need to do is a regular water change to set them off. If that doesn't work, simply doing a good water change and turning the heater off overnight will do the trick.
If you are going to buy corys, I suggest that you buy the 2-3 biggest ones in the tank because they will be females. Ask the lfs person to put them into a cup so you can view them from above. Once you have a good idea of how wide they are, go back to the tank and try to pick out 2 or 3 of the smaller ones. You will be looking for the ones that are both smaller and thinner.
The younger the fish are, the harder this is too do, but since you will be wanting a small school of them, if you do it this way the odds are greatly in your favor of getting some of each. When the time comes to breed them, they will all go into the breeding tank, so if the ratio of males to females is not the same, it will still work out OK, because chances are that they will not all spawn at the same time.
