Sex Of Goldfish

has any one ever asked this question befor? how do you sex goldfish???
i think i have all girls im just unsure , am i looking at the anal fin, as it looks fan shape.

You cant go by the shape of the fins. When old enough the males get breeding tubercles on the gills and pectoral fins that look like little bumps. The females get plumper.

so when are goldfish old enough to breed? im going to have to look a picture up on what tuercles look like how do i know how old my fish are or is that just an educated guess

Depends how big they were when you bought them and how long you ahve had them. Generally the smaller the fish the younger it is so most are leass than a year old when you buy them.
Given good water and large tank, they can mature faster but generally it takes them 3 years to mature though some only 2 years.

put a football match on the tv if its a male it will swim to the front of the tank if its female it will start complaining

generaly males that have already bred will have a rough edge around the pectoral fins also you can try to get a look at the vent males will tend to be flat while females have a slight bump ,pecroral fins on a male will tend to be more pointed where females have rounded shape its a difficult thing to spot and knowing your fish helps ie you soon get to spot the difference

omg i love your humor both of you think i will try the news paper method as the tank isnt situated by a tv, if i dont see an oggling expression accompanied by them jostling for possition to get a better look i will use the portable dvd player to play my dads copy of the world cup final ( not a futty fan myself )
