my female severum has laid eggs and is attacking the male, she has driven him to the corner of the tank, he has not fertilised the eggs yet as he is afraid to move. can anyone tell me what i should now?

Severums are not African cichlids, but thats ok, a mod can move this to the New world cichlid section.

Remove the eggs as they are unlikely to get fertilised and the female will then have nothing to defend.

Are you sure the other is male? Could be another female, severums will lay eggs without a male around.

In the meantime if the aggression doesnt stop, you will need to move one of them to another tank or if you have no other tank, divide the tank with a divider.

What size tank is this?

the tank is 180 ltres, the female is 2 years old and 5 inches long and the male is 10 years old eight inches long. they have been living together in same tank about a year. last time she laid eggs he tried to fertilise them but none hatched and she became aggressive so we moved him into another tank.sadly where he bullied our other male to death.

180 litre tank with 2 sevs????? are you serious? you need to either rehome both sevs or invest in a 100 gallon or bigger . dont mean to sound blunt but those poor sevs need a bigger tank. tank size is certainly a faxctor in this agression

^^ agreed, the minimum size tank for one severum is 75 gallon, the poor things must be squashed and stressed constantly.

thankyou for your advice, we do have another tank which is 300 litres which holds 1 acara, 2 firemouths, flying fox and a featherfin catfish. do you think it wise to move the bigger severum to this tank?
