I have a severum who for the past day has been clamping one of his pectoral fins to his body. It does move, as when I go to the tank he swims around using it, but I see him every now and then just hovering with it clamped to his body, and the other one is happily flapping about!!!
Is this a sign of clamped fins, or nothing to worry about???

With all fish, it is usually a sign that they are not happy.

I would do some water tests to make sure you have good water quality and keep an eye out for diseases and check your water temp is ok.

IMO I would treat the tank for white spot anyway (just in case) better to spend about £4 on medicine that having to buy all your fish again.

Clamped fins can also mean stress, so mabye your fish are stressed out about something or like Liliano said unhappy about something. I also think it would be a good idea to get your water checked just incase it's something in the water that causing them to stress.
Clamped fins might also mean a type of fsh disease so keep watch for that.

Yup. He's got white spot. I noticed it a day after I posted this!! I've been treating the tank, and he seems a little better now. Hopefully that is what was causing it. Water Params are fine BTW!!!

It will certainly be the main cause. poor little fella

Remember to treat the tank daily, I always do more days than recommended on the bottle, this parasite can only be killed in its freeform ie when the clusters have fallen off the fish. Don't assume that because the spots have gone that the parasites have been killed. I would treat the water for about 10 days after the spots have gone.

I'm using Interpet Ainti White Spot Plus, and it says to treat on day one, then again on day four. Today is day four, and I added another dose. I know that you have to kill it in it's free swimming form, and I'm a bit concerned that he still has white spots all over him, although not as many as there were before. I raised the temp to 80 as soon as I saw it was white spot, so this should have sped up the cycle a little, but I'm a bit concerned about him really. Is white spot more resilient on larger fish??
This bloody tank is giving me headaches. I've never had a single disease in my other tank (touch wood!!!) and so far in this one I've had Fungus, Slime disease, and now White spot (2 different occasions!!).
Oh well, thanks for your help. I'll let you know how he gets on. Let's hopw he's OK, cos he's a lovely fish!!!
