hi people, im new here my first post .

so i have a marine biorb (sigh) not the best start i know(NO corals! .)

so ive come up with this, i have a rekord 60 FW that is 1 fish from empty and as soon as that one has gone, i will empty this tank and set up my second nano!

so my rekord 60 has a crappy hood 1 T8 15watts tube! , no good for corals.

so ive come up with a solution! on charter-house aquatics they have the interpet HO compact T5 starter units.

ive decided to make my own hood out of wood, so back to the starter units, ive decided to buy a 2*55watt starter unit so 110watts of 10K light so i end up with aproximatly 1.9watts per litre. and then im going with a 24watt actinic tube( to see if the corals will flouresce. ).

so i am planning on mounting these units into the hood im going to build.buy on reading the reviews ive read they get VERY hot! so will reflectors fitted to the hood stop the heat getting into the wood and warping it or even starting a fire? or should i fit some small Pc fans to reduce heat? or should i mount the light unit lower from the top of the hood? but make the hood so it stands higher of the tank. all thoughts welcome

thanks,
Jack M

Jack as I said before if you use reflectors then the heat is not a problem plus the lighting in the tank is better. If you run without reflectors you may scorch the wood, but as for starting a fire is a little unlikely. Saying that you never know they said the Titanic was unsinkable so probably safer to use reflectors .

Hope this helps

yes i took your thoughts into consideration, but i was cleaning my reflectors earlier on my current bulb and it was rather warm, so i think i should lower the lights away from the wood abit

The reflectors should be but the underlying hood is not.........
