right, ive got the tank and filled it up will RO water, salt, and live sand. ive turned on the filter and the powerhead in there is extremly noisey so ive turned it back of, i was wondering if you guys think i should get rid of the filter completly and just have live rock in there which im getting next week, but i did want somewhere to put some phosguard so what shall i do?

thanks in advance

live rock is by far the best filter you can get but externals do help as u can change the media in them, what filter is it? it is possible to chage the head in it for reasonable money depending on the brand

its the juwel powerhead for the rio 180, i could take it back the shop and ask for a replacement, i just want a filter aswell as the live rock for phosguard and other stuff. do you think its best cuting the juwel filter out and replacing it with another brand, thanks

i have a jewel rio 400 myself, i cleared out the jewel stuff in the tank and used the space to hide stuff like heaters, pump inlet and outlets etc!

the jewel stuff really isnt that great for marines id scrap it and get an external canister ;) and use the space to hide stuff :)

yeh i would do that but the problem is i havnt got a cabinet to but the extenal in . do you think i should get rid of that filter and just stick a smaller filter in so i can have phosguard in?

thanks

no stand huh, damn that complicates things lol!

hmmmm tricky the problem is if you put a filter inside that box it doesnt become very efficient, maybe a small internal on the outside of that box or hidden behind a bit of live rock somewhere in the tank then you can put ur media in you require.

another option though it will require some handy work from yourself as jewels are very mod friendly, is to get a hang on back design filter, then u save your space and have somewhere for your media ;)

hth

yeah they can be completely removed so all you have left is the black outer plastic box even that can be removed but its more agro that its worth :good:

I'm using a Juwel Vision 180 as a marine tank.

I wouldn't use the internal filter as a filter, get about 20-25 kg of LR for that. Heres what I've done:-

I've upgraded the internal powerhead to the 1000 l/hour version (from 600 l/h)
I've removed all the internal filter media, all thats in the internal now is a filter bag of rowaphos and one of carbon, and the heater still.
I've added another powerhead on the other side of the tank.
And finally I have an internal skimmer.

Mine seems to be going very well so far....touch wood.
