Wanted to get some opinions and consensus on setting up a refugium in my 24g nano cube.

I have re-read through SH's journal and also a great post on nano-reef.com about the fuge light mod (peeling off the backing and adding an external light source). Our tank is in our sitting room, and is fairly close to a wall, so haven't really got much space to add the lamp type fixture that SH seems to be currently using (not sure if that is your current source of light SH??)

I was thinking of heading down the submersible route, possible using a submersible LED to provide light (minimal heat etc), but wasn't sure how many LED's would be required? Would a single one such as this one be any good - Marina LED

Alternatively I was looking at this LED fixture on the nanotuners website. Unit looks very compact and would imagine there is little light bleed. Has anyone else used this fitting?? I am hesitant as the shipping cost to the UK is half the price again, plus I would need to get a power convertor!!

Any suggestions pointers greatly received!!

I'd be looking for something halfway inbetween those options :). The first link is going to be way underpowered, and the second is overkill for sure. Maybe try PMing SH directly, he might have some better input. Wish I was more of a nano guy to help out :)

The single light is inefficient. The other light I am not sure how it works unless it fits over the chamber. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, the best way to illuminate a refugium in the 24G type of nano cube is the external light. I tried a submersible halogen but the wavelength is not great and halogen causes a lot of heat. Also, the light was rather narrow. Now..you could DIY an array of LEDS over the back perhaps..and build a cover to reduce light spillover. I believe white LEDs have a good wavelength but it's the LUMENS that count, which means you'd need to add quite a few.

Keith - that is the unit i enquired about with nanotuners, they said it will work, but you need a power convertor to go from a UK 240v to US 110v, which is basically an additional adapter costing about £12.99 online!

I also came across this LED Strip - any comments on whether this would be a viable option??
