I would like to set up a 10 gal quarantine tank in case of emergencies and adding new fish. Could I use some gravel from my established tank to get the cycling started? I don't plan on having any fish in the tank, unless something comes up. Is it necessary to have a filter in the tank?

Thanks ;)

Hey there...I never really cycled my quarantine tank...just because i never have fish in there for more than a couple of days...but while i do have some in there i make sure to watch the water levels really close and frequent water changes really help. I'd add a filter just to keep the water circulating. Nothing huge..a penguin mini is all i have and a small cheapo heater. hope i helped!

p.s. Leafs rule...too bad about this stupid hockey lock out huh?? :p

Hey, another Leafs fan! Thanks for the help. It is too bad about the lockout. To tell you the truth, I've been so busy with my new house and new child on the way, that I haven't missed it too much. It will probably sink in once it starts getting colder.

Hi leafs,

I usually keep an extra small filter running on my established tanks and few extra plastic plants and rocks that I move when I need to set up quarantine tanks. :)

Hi there. Thanks for the help. I think I'm going to use an smaller filter. I'll take my time with it.
