Setting Up A Betta Tank

I love the look of bettas and would like to keep some girls together, but what other fish could they live with?

I am planning my tank way in advance lol, im about to start cycling a 25 gallon tank.

Id like a small shoaling fish and an algae eater of some kind. I liked the look of guppies but was put off when i heard they did not do well with bettas. And what sort of water do bettas like?

Any advise would be fab
