Im going away later in the year and was thinking about setting the tank up when i get back.

However im now wondering would i be able to set the tank up add the water, live rock etc and leave it till i came back?

i will be going away for about 2 and a half weeks, would it be ok with the pumps, skimmer and heater on with the lights on a timer untill i get back?

rather than setting up and watching it go though the cycle period.

thanks
chris

yeah, would be fine. Maybe ask someone to top it up half way through. But it would be nice not to have to sit and watch the tank all the way through a cycle! they seem to take forever! holiday would make it go quicker

Pretty much done that just last week mate.

Had tank running for about 2weeks before i went away and it was cycled, but to confirm i did a large water change and left it running as it was for the 9days i was away just had my step son check the skimmer cup etc and top up water level that was it.

Come back and it was still cycled, covered in algea! but cycled non the less. Left my lights on a 6hr lighting timer

thanks for the respones.

ren&stumpy.
did the skimmer remove much mess do you know? i wouldnt of thought there was much to remove in a new system (however im new so could be completly wrong)

ben.
the auto top up should sort that out (hopefully)

thanks again

The amount of mank collected by the skimmer in a cycling tank really depends on the state of the rock. If it's cured or does not have too much die-off, the skimmer will collect very little. With a lot of die off or un-cured rock, the skimmer will go nuts :good:

My tank was cycled before i went away the skimmer didnt need emptying once whilst i was away and there was very little in the cup when i returned.

I am doing exactly that this week My LR will go in the tank on wednesday, I go on holiday on saturday, so by the time I get home it should be cycling nicely :good:
