well the description sums it up im hopefully getting a 60l tank and im going to start a cherry shrimp colony what live plants should i add Gravel/sand mmm how many could i have in the tank and suitable tank mates??? could i have a couple of apple snails or a male betta please give me any tips and whats the best food i only have a couple of shrimp atm they are getting fed expensive algae wafers lol

i'm sure any live plants that let berried and newly hatched shrimp hide in would be great for them. It just depends what you like and can keep alive. :) I have a riccia moss wall in my cherry tank, it's pretty messy and i'm not sure if it would grow without liquid or injected co2, but the shrimp love it! i've got argos playsand in the tank, it's cheap and looks pretty good too.

yea i have bought some riccia of this forum and am planing to put sand in it how much is like a c02 thing thanks

I;ll be keeping an eye on your thread as I;ve set a 65 litre tank up for cherry shrimp and cherry barb

i use the fertalizer set here for the plants http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/ae-design-aqua-nourish-set-500ml-p-4246.html. There are a few options, there's a really good sticky on the planted section of the forum for a diy co2 setup aswell. It might be worth askin on there to see if anyone's had luck growing riccia without it as well. some of the folks in favour of less water changes might have had some luck with it :)

i'e got a journal at http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/343446-low-tech-home-for-shrimp-and-frogs/ i need to update it though, i just moved the shrimp to my smaller tank as i caught one of my frogs snacking on a fully grown one the other day! It's worth a search of the journals, quite a few people have shrimp.

ha nice one how many could i fit in my 60l

they put rabbits to shame the way they breed, the main thing i'd concentrate on is getting them from a couple different sources so there's a bit of variation in the gene pool. you'll end up with a few hunderd in a 60l i'd guess. i started with 10 then got 20 more from another member, both lots from the classified section on here, embrace and stevereade.
