Hello, I saw some attractive 'Serpae Tetras' in LFS for a cheap price and thought I'd seek any past experiences/advice on these before getting a shoal.
>I've a feeling they may be aggro with my Rummy-Noses and I also have Large Angels, HoneyGourami, Swordtails, C.Loaches + GlassCatfish.

Any advice & good or bad experiences are greatly appreciated.

I bought some a few months ago and was very disappointed. They only swam at the bottom of the tank, not coming to the surface even to feed which was very annoying.

They will be agro with your angels because they nip anything they can find. They do need alot of cover to feel secure and swim in the mid to top regions rather than bottom. Get at least six.

Just beware of their nippy nature.

Serpæ, like the other blood tetras are notoriously nippy, and being front toothed, can do a lot of damage with a small nip. I would not advise keeping them with any slow moving long finner fish. Rather, a large group to try to limit aggresion, in a tank of fish well able to look after themselves.

decent looking but horrible little fellas. worse than tiger barbs in my experience. I had some in my sons tank and they nipped everything including themselves so they looked like crap. I had a group of six

i have a group of 6 in with angels, gouramis, other tetras, various other fish and have had no problems whatsoever with nipping and mine swim mid water and come up to feed. strange how peoples experiences are totally different lol

Thanks, will probably opt against them....the reputation they have may explain the cost of 75p! each. (or 6 for 4quid)

May just add more Rummys or perhaps look into Cherry Barbs...?

Cherry Barbs are one of the few non-schooling barbs. 2 males together in a small tank may fight. These are best kept as a pair or trio, with 1m 2f.

runny nose are my favourite shoaling tetra. they are gorgeous

What visual differences are there between M/F? May get a trio... (its a 180L tank)
