A friend has 3 serpaes in a 10g tank with no other fish. I've read horror stories will terrorize and even kill other fish. I suggested that he buy 3 more serpaes for a total of 6. Two questions:

Should he add the new serpaes in any particular order like one at a time, or all 3 at once?

To finish stocking the tank, what would be a good choice? Maybe a betta or a few ghost shrimp?

Thanks!

Certainly not a betta- with their long flowing fins, that's the last fish you want to put with renowned fin-nippers.

Anyway, your suggestion for adding to the school is good, and that will fully stock the tank. Ideally, they should all go in at once, but then there is a risk of the filter being overloaded. Would he be able to give it a boost with extra squeezings from another tank?

Ok, no betta. Thanks.

He only has 1 tank. Could he add a few ghost shrimp to gradually increase the bioload and then add the 3 serpaes later?

I suggest he puts in all 3 at once as to diminish the adjustment in the school every time a new one comes in. In this way they only need to determine the picking order once.

If you are worried about the filter: just do some more water changes in the beginning.

Good luck!
