I feed our Betta 4 pellets of Hikari Betta Bio-Gold twice a day for a total of 8 pellets. I have read a lot of the postings on this website and other pages which describes this as the proper amount to feed. However, my fish is food frantic. As soon as we come up the bowl he darts right over and if we happen to drop in food he eats it all right away. I am so worried about over-feeding him but not sure if I am giving him enough. He seems quite happy and very friendly. He makes bubble nests every night. Does anyone have an opionion on this? Do you think he needs more food? He is a pretty small fish compared to other betta I have seen.
Thanks

Nah, bettas are 24/7 finned pigs -- they'll eat until the burst, if you let them. It's impossible to feed them until they're "full". 4-8 pellets a day is a good amount to feed an adult. I tend to feed mine between 4-6, but I'll tip a few more in there sometimes by accident.

Well I think it's true that bettas dont' really know when to stop eating... but if you feed them too much you run the risk of causing swim bladder disease which is NOT a good thing!

Thanks for the advice. He just looks at me with those little eyes and all I can think is him saying FEED ME!! I already have a portly dog.

I'm more concerned if my Bettas aren't scarfing down anything I drop into their tank ... I recieved 3 girls recently who are very picky eaters, and it bugs me soooo much! I keep having to suction out uneaten food a couple minutes after each feeding, and it gets annoying. I <3 my ravenous little Bettas!
