Has anyone tried the SERA catfood wafers with willow bark? Not personally, obviously!!!

I was reading up and it says that when you have plecs that need wood in their diet you should change the wood every 6 weeks or so so that nutrients aren't lost. Bearing in mind that most of us soak the wood, and don't know in the first place how long it's been in the lfs, this seems a bit hit and miss. If it's true of course, i am a born sceptic.

Anyhow, saw these SERA catfish chips with willow and alder wood "for all suckermouth and raspmouth catfish...specially formulated for their natural eating behaviour to graze off their food"

Contains: wheat meal, wheat germ, fish meal, spinach, alfalfa, spirulina, sea algae, willow wood with bark, alder wood and added vitamins.

Sound good or just an advertising hook?

You just read that in the latest PFK mag didn't you ? ;)
I'm interested to know too and might just try it next time I see it. Sera does a good range and do have some of their food.

Being that I now have 7 cats in two seperate tanks I shall certainly give them a go. I like to try alsorts and see what goes down well. Plus the variation seems to appreciated by all the fish. I'll pick some up in the next day or two and let you all know what the cats think of it.
Hugs,
P.

soaking the wood and sitting in a shop doesn't make a difference to a nutrience level.

there talking about the first level of wood which contains something that the cats need, once they have sucked on the wood all over then the nutrients have been used.

I can't remeber the proper name for it but I'm sure CFC will clear it up begins with L i think.

I think it's usually recomended to change wood every 6 months.

Lignin. Which some Catfish like/require.

Thats the one! It's only present in the first layers of bogwood. Mopani wood is no good as it's been sand blasted thus blasting the nutrients away.

Plecs that NEED Lignin include royal plecs (panaques) as do clown plecs.
