Okay so I bought a new white boy from walmart yestderay. I noticed some red streaks in his tail, but they were very faint. He also has red dots at the ends of his tail fin and looks like the start of fin rot. After I got him in clean water and under some light, I noticed some of the scales on his head are a dull red. I do not know if this is his coloration or if it could be Septicemia. He is currently in a 1 gallon kritter keeper with a little amount of salt in his water. He flares at everything and is swimming perfectly fine, no other sign of disease at all. He loves his frozen blood worms and gobbles them up very quickly. He otherwise looks like a 100% healthy betta.

What should I do? I wish I could take some pictures, but my digital camera needs new batteries. I will try to get some today or find some that will work so I can take some pictures. Please help me out, he's such a character and a beautiful male betta!

Red streaks could of been due to poor water quality, just keep an eye on him, add some salt to his bowl, good luck.

Rachel - are they red dots kinda like these on Harvey's head:?

He's had them all his life.
EDIT - he's had the redness on TOP of his head his whole life.
In the picture above, he's battling tail biting, fin rot and gill problems. Not to mention internal infection.
He's now on the road to recovery, but it's been one HECK of a long road!!

Red spots can disapear on there own, i think the problems stem from poor water quality.

They are like that, but you know how he has a yellow-ish color in between them? My boy has them all bunched together in just one patch. Like where Harvey's red and yellow is, my boy's is all red.

Hmm..
wilder is right - just keep an eye on them and with water changes - if they're going to disappear, they will.

I can't wait to see pics of him! :)

He gets 100% water changes everyday and a little pinch of salt in his water. He's my first betta that actually flares at me all the time. He's very active and I am hoping I can go to petsmart to get him a bigger tank for like $8.00 that is all I have. He is doing good in a 1 gallon, but I think he'd do better in something like a 2 or 3 gallon since he is so active.

Funny thing is, I tried to put him in the divided 10 gallon with Cotton Candy, but the divider somehow got a hole in it and Cotton candy came over on the new white boy's side. All they did was flare at each other, then swam together. Never attacked or even tried to bite at one another. It was very strange. I took the divider out and threw it away. I was just puzzled by their behavior though. Last time when deiter got into Cotton candy's side, Cotton Candy ripped a good chunk of deiter's tail off and deiter returned the favor.

Some bettas are just sweethearts. :)
Hope you can find the tank you're looking for!
They only had tank dividers for 15-20 gallons. I was pretty sure I could cut the plastic lining to make it fit my tank, but I picked up a 2.5 gallon instead. It is glass and has a glass lid as well. It covers the whole tank with no air holes but is like a open lid kind of. Like it is not attached, just a piece of glass that sits on the top. So I scooted it back a bit to open up a little area for air. He LOVES it!

Those are just like what i have Jasper, Harvey and Charlie in!
They do love them!
I just hate them right now because of the whole heating situation!
Here's Harvey's:

The glass lid is on top, then I also bought a hood light too, for 12$.

Aw so cute! I didn't buy a light for his tank because I have this lamp that has a glass shelf kind of thing under it and it is perfect for his tank, so the light just shines over the water and gives him plenty of light.

I don't really have to worry about heating most of my tanks because it usually stays constant at around 76 F.

You're super lucky!
I'm going out right now in the crappyass rainy weather to get a 10G tank for my poor boys.

The b.f. is out of town for a couple of days - so what the hay!
I can't stand seeing these guys torment their tails.

I'm gonna have extra tanks now - maybe i can use one for Liza so she can get the heck out of that crazy little 1/2 gallon things she's in!
UUgh

I'm off!

Goodluck! I have a 1/2 gallon tank and an extra 1 gallon tank. I may get like 2 ghost shrimp in the 1 gallon or something. -shrugs- I have no space for them haha.
