SENEGAL BICHIR ??/

In the wild, these guys can grom more than a foot long, but they tend to be smaller in captivity. They are territorial, but as far as i know, only toward their own kind. They will also eat any fish that can fit in their mouths, otherwise they are ok. And i don't know bout the look like snakehead thing, they are in the same family, but don't look too similar to me anyways.

P.T.

You MAY have problems if you put it in the tank in your signature. When/if it gets at it's adult legth, it could eat some of your Tetras. :dunno: Be careful when adding predators.

Bichirs are Polypterus species and only come from Africa, Snakeheads are from the families Channa and Parachanna, Channa are found in Asia and Parachanna are found in Africa. Polypterus are one of the oldest groups of fish on the planet and Channa/Parachanna are one of the youngest. The only way that Bichirs and Snakeheads are related is that they are both fish.

If he got a bichir that did reach ful length, the only things left would be his pleco and opaline gouramis :p

I think he was just curious about them though :)

I,ve kept four senegal birchirs over time (even three in one go) and they are real characters, each with their own temperment. One kinda laid there until food smacked it in the face then would just suck it in, while the largest was an exrtremely active predator, surprisingly the smallest was the most aggressive!
If a birchir cant eat it its not bothered as a rule of thumb, and they learn pretty quickly (especially with armoured catfish such as the spotted dora), and if they do fight it tends to be very little damage unless one is significantly bigger than the other. My current birchir a p.Weeksii is as soft as a brush, venturing only a few inches from his rock at lights out then scooting back in. goes to show thy're all individuals

I have a sengal bichir that is alost a foot long now I think it's one of the coolest fish in my tank. it will eat anything it can swallow. usually the food has to swim too it but it does go on the chase once in a while. people either really like it or hate it because it does have a snake like head.
