Yea, been a while since I posted here.

I got 4 male platys and 2 female platys. First of all, one of the sex's go. I do NOT want breeding to happen in my tank ever again. Sucha hassle. Now, I have 2 distinct questions.

1. Should I get rid of the 4 males and keep the 2 females or get rid of the 2 females and keep the males.

2. From here on out, I want tetras and nothing but tetras. What are some good combos with tetras and platys? Remember, one of the sex's.

THIS IS A 10 GALLON TANK

I also switched the light from incandescent to fluorescent. Looks so much better! :)

I would say get rid of the males. Apart from potential stocking issues, they are more likely to harass each other in a tank of that size anyway than the females will. You could then consider adding a nice school of Cardinals :)

how bout this?

-2 female plays
-6 cardinals (or neons of the're cheaper)
-3 cory's

Your females are going to keep having babies for a while after you get rid of the males, and I don't think the males will hassle each other that much.

Im getting rid of the females then.

I decided maybe I don't want tetras. I was thinking more like Swordtails or guppies, but all male. How do I find out the difference between a male swordtail and guppy and female swordtail and guppy

:D Yep, male swordies have an longer bottom fin, or gonopodium, but in guppies, you'll always find that the males are really pretty and colourful, but the females are duller, and usually one colour. Also, I think you find in most fish stores, male and female guppies will be kept seperatley so they don't mate!

Male Sword-Tails are the reason they have that name, the tail fin has a long "sword" coming off the bottom of the tail. As for the guppies Nuttygal is bang on.

alright, sounds good. Thanks! So here is what I was thinking

4 male platys
2 male guppies
2 male swordtails
3 pigmy cories

Does that sound good?
