Just curious - what do you do when you see a totally inappropriately sized/badly maintained aquarium out and about? Or a goldfish bowl on television programmes? The restaurants in my area for example seem to have a love affair with enormous goldfish in average sized tanks...

I would never have the guts to say anything but it makes me mad!

It makes me mad too but to be honest, most people don't care and take it as a personal attack anyway.

i hate it... i mean brouseing though freecycle for example "wanted fish tank" ,"offer fish tank" its like, what happened to the fish? i hate to think about it

maybe the people just moved house or wanted to give up fish-keeping? Just because they are selling the tank doesn't mean they killed the fish.

true but i think the worst... the ammount iv seen on there... and the new owners its also like on ebay. whos going to buy it... do they know a thing about cycleing

Maybe they don't know about cycling when they buy the tank. They may have never kept fish before but there is nothing wrong with that. As long as they are given the correct information from their LFS, forums like this or fellow fish-keepers then I think it's a brilliant thing for people to buy a tank with no experience...everyone starts somewhere.

I have to agree kelly. I had never had fish before until about a year ago. I am amazed at what I have learned, especially from this forum. I have multiple tanks now because I have been experimenting with different set ups and different types of fish. Felt I had to graduate from livebearers lol

I feel the same way too. I've learned so many things since starting. I didn't know what to do. I bought some plants and thought they'd be fine just shoved in the gravel not really. This forum has taught me so much. Everyone will Start somewhere.

I found a bargain on eBay today in my area for a 4ft tank. Looks great, but going by the photo it looks like it's never had fish in it!

I seen one last weekend in the hotel that we stayed at in London. The hotel had a Chinese restaurant attached to it, and knowing that i keep tropical fish one of the lads with us called me over to have a look at their two tanks. The first was a 3 foot tall, probably 70-90L tank with internal filter, housing Mollys, Guppys and some Neon Tetra, Great. Looks lovely. But the other tank... no more than 90L with a 12 INCH PLECO in it! The poor thing couldn't even turn round, let alone move around in the tank. I thought twice about airing my opinions, my Mandarin isn't what it used to be.

Terry.
