Hi guys,
i just got my divider working again, but i only have one concern
it is see through
so what are your experiences with it?
Will the fighters flare much at each other, or will they eventually get bored with eachother?

Thanks

DD

I darednt use dividers my boys got at each other..dont know how. my 2 out kitchen have got a bit of paper between their tanks or they just flare all the while. Perhaps it depends on the fish? I fancy going to look at a aquatic centre might talk nice to hubby...if there is one with a coffee shop that sometimes works!

I use individual tanks for my bettas. Since they are placed side by side on the shelves, I make sure that the cardboards are in between to prevent them from seeing and flaring at each other.

I take the boards out so they can flare for 10-15 minutes in the morning and afternoon. Flaring too much will stress your bettas. The long-finned ones tend to get their fins frayed from too much flaring. Eventually, they will get too stressed and might not flare at anything at all.

I have a friend who uses plastic corrugated boards in his divided tanks. :)

I have three bettas in individual tanks that are right up next to each other, and a divided tank (the dividers aren't totally see-through but you can tell another betta's there when they're up close). The only time any of the boys flare at each other is when the lights are on, but even then it's only for fun and they're not stressed at all. One of them doesn't even flare at all. So I think it depends on the fish.

I have craft canvas--it's white plastic with little square holes-- and they don't mind it. Now when I used the glass divider, they about flipped. I think I'll be covering the glass dividers with a little something to make them feel less exposed. I think it depends on the fish though because my friend's fish are all separated by glass dividers and they don't care one bit!

I have a tank divided by plastic canvas into 4 sections and my boys are in there, occassionally they peer through the holes in the canvas and have a little flare at his flat mate but there has never been any major problems as they can't really see that well into the other half of the tank. :D

I think I may have read it somewhere or was adviced by a friend, but the suggestion was to place any opaque water-proof material like plastic boards aginst the transparent glass dividers... only a small square hole is cut on the bottom area of the opaque material so the bettas can see through and flare at each other.

Flaring at the bottom gives the fins more exercise as water pressure is added. Since bettas are near-the-surface dwellers, they get to flare only when they swim below.

Sounds logical enough. I'd probably try it if I had a large divided tank.

OR, you could just add a lot of plants so the other side of the divider won't be totally visible.
