The pair have spawned again only a week or two after the loss of the first spawn. This spawn is much larger at 3 to 4 times as many eggs , which have been laid in the same area. so they seem to prefer the sword plant.

Have either of you tried to take the eggs and raise them in a separate tank? That is the only way I have managed to successfully hatch the eggs from a community tank. I have had success with leaving the eggs with the parents but only when the parents were the only fish in the tank.

For various reasons, it is common for newly paired angelfish that are first timers (age-wise) to decide to eat the eggs. This can occur for a few spawnings. Conditions like other fish can cause them to do this, but sometimes they just do it even when no other fish are present. This never happens with wild caught fish according to what I have read, only the tank-raised. I believe this applies to the eggs; once hatched it should be OK, unless of course there is a perceived threat present in the tank.

They didn't eat the eggs the fry actually made it to the free swimming stage the first time

I don't have the space or funds to get a second setup

In my community tank the fry will last 1 or 2 days at the free swimming stage until some fish makes a bold move to eat a fry, then as the parents fight them off other fish go in when the parents are distracted. I have had all the fry gone within 30 minutes of this starting and in the final stages the parents will also eat the fry. This is just my experience, I have one pair of angels that breed at least every month. If you want to keep some fry you might want to consider dividing the tank somehow, or provide a lot of shelter and you might have a few that survive.

The eggs have hatched and are wiggling

The fry have made it farther than the first batch and are free swimming I gave some fry food and they scattered from their little birdcage shaped plant the parents quickly put them after they'd eaten
